Conditions of Hire

Thank you for your deposit for a holiday on our Murray River Houseboat. We would like to advise of the following Conditions of hire and Information, and we would appreciate you reading them prior to your arrival.
  1. The hirer needs to be over 21 years of age, with a driver’s license or skippers ticket.
  2. The balance of hire must be paid 4 weeks in advance (Xmas/New Year & Easter 8 weeks), failure to do so may result in your deposit being forfeited and your trip cancelled. A security bond of $1000 (for Ruby and Murray River Queen), or $2000 (for Hakuna Matata) is held by Murray River Houseboats until the houseboat is returned in clean and good order, and on time for 14 days. Damage, loss or extra cleaning will be charged for at cost. Fuel consumed during your  holiday is an additional cost. As a general guide, Hakuna Matata and Murray River Queen use approximately 6-8 litres per hour, and Ruby uses approximately 5-6 litres per hour of use. There is a surcharge of $10 per hire for gas usage.
  3. Should you cancel your booking with more than two weeks notice, (4 weeks Xmas/New Year & Easter) your deposit may be refunded, minus $50 administration fee. If less than two weeks notice is given, (4 weeks Xmas/New Year & Easter) your deposit is non- refundable but you may rebook for another day (Possible exceptions may be given for genuine un- foreseen circumstances).
  4. All bookings commence from 12.00noon on the day of departure, and cease at 10.00am on the final day. (With the exception of weekend hires, which finish at 4pm Sunday.)Return times stated must be strictly adhered to, as there may be another family leaving 2 hours after you, and your late return will disrupt their holiday. Late returns will attract an additional fee. Earlier departures, and later arrivals, can be negotiated depending on further houseboat bookings.
  5. Late arrivals may have to wait until morning for their tuition as it takes approximately one hour. The operator reserves the right to prevent the boat from departure after 5pm as all houseboats must be moored by sun down.
  6. The number of people, (including children over 1year old) allowed on board is strictly limited to the number of berths registered.
  7. Boat condition. – We agree to have the boat, motor and accessories in good order. We will not be obliged to compensate the hirer for loss of time due to mechanical problems during the hire period.
  8. House boats can easily be handled by two adults. Boat handling and operating instructions are given prior to departure, (approx 1 hour). Information pack and charts are on board.
  9. No fire arms, axes or trail bikes allowed and sorry no pets.
  10. Charges and times may be subject to alternation without notice.
  11. Booking for all male and all female groups may be subject to an increased amount of bond.
  12. Parking facilities available at no charge- but at the owners risk. PLEASE NOTE space is limited in our locked enclosure. If you are coming with a large group, please consider car pooling. Also, we cannot provide space for boat trailers, but you are welcome to bring a padlock and chain and bolt it to the outside of the compound.
  13. In the interest of the health and comfort of our on-coming clients, and our staff, we request our houseboats remain smoke free. The cost of laundering of linen and curtains will be deducted from your bond if it is found you have been smoking in the houseboat.
  14. You will need to bring your own sheets and bath towels; Pillows, pillow slips, doonas and spare blankets are provided. The galley is equipped with tea towels, detergent, sponges, scourer, extra bin bags, fly spray, matches, gas lighter.
  15. Our boats are powered by 12 volt power, therefore ordinary electrical appliances do not work. A cigarette lighter phone charger is helpful for charging your mobile phone on your holiday.
  16. Dolphin Houseboat Holidays and Murray River Houseboats are jointly owned, and depending on weather conditions, and the safety of our hirers, these houseboats sometimes swing between the two business’s. We will be in contact with you a day or two before your departure, to confirm a time for you to leave, and we will then let you know if your houseboat is not at it’s home base.
  17. Due to the large number of houseboats requiring tuition in one day, we carefully schedule in your arrival time by mutual arrangement. We ask that you endeavor to be as close to the agreed time as possible, or give us as much notice as possible if you are running late. If you are more than half an hour late, we will move on to the next excited holiday makers, and you may have to move to the end of the cue.
  18. Personal cheques can not be used for the bond unless sent to us 2 weeks prior of holiday to allow for bank clearance and unfortunately we cannot accept American Express or diners cards.
  19. The company reserves the right to refuse any person the use of the craft.
  20. Due to the careful balance of power on the houseboats, we cannot allow Engel fridges etc. Please feel welcome to bring eskies. Ice is readily available for purchase up-river.
  21. Space on boats is limited, so please pack lightly. An overnight bag is ideal, for easy stowage.
  22. All houseboats are fitted with TV/DVD/CD but at times signals and reception can be non existent due to your location.  It is recommended you bring along CD/DVD’s for these times.  Hotels and taverns do have large screens if a particular sport is on for you to enjoy in order to guarantee front row seats.
  23. Please note, depending on winter tides, strong rain bearing fromts, etc, it may not be possible to pass under the Ravenswood bridge for the duration of your holiday. However, there is lots to explore “up-river” including the Redcliffe on the Murray Restaurant, Peel zoo, and the quaint town of Pinjarra. The legendry Ravenswood hotel is located opposite the houseboats. The is usually a winter phenomenon.
